Human Becoming: Living Multidimensionally and Embracing Evolution

February 8, 2024 Fateme Banishoeib

“For me, becoming isn’t about arriving somewhere or achieving a certain aim. I see it instead as forward motion, a means of evolving, a way to reach continuously toward a better self. The journey doesn’t end.” ― Michelle Obama

Human existence is a tapestry woven with threads of being and becoming. The interplay between what we are and what we aspire to become shapes our journey.

“One of the sad things today is that so many people are frightened by the wonder of their own presence. They are dying to tie themselves into a system, a role, or to an image, or to a predetermined identity that other people have actually settled on for them. This identity may be totally at variance with the wild energies that are rising inside in their souls. Many of us get very afraid and we eventually compromise. We settle for something that is safe, rather than engaging the danger and the wildness that is in our own hearts.” ― John O'Donohue

When we define ourselves solely in terms of being in a certain way, or a role, we risk confining our identity within rigid boundaries, limiting our capacity for wonder and exploration. This perspective overlooks the inherent fluidity of human nature and disregards the transformative power of experience and self-discovery.

When we perceive ourselves as static entities with predefined attributes, we may resist change and shy away from challenges that could propel us towards personal and collective evolution.

I’ve always loved the concept of "human becoming" to celebrate the ongoing process of evolution. Our identities are not fixed but continually evolving, multifaceted and multidimensional.

As dynamic beings, we possess a diverse array of talents, interests, and potentials waiting to be unearthed. Embracing our multidimensional nature allows us to cultivate a richer, more expansive understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

We may be artists, scientists, caregivers, adventurers—all within the same individual. By embracing our multifaceted nature, we transcend the limitations of being and embrace the boundless potentiality of becoming.

“The true inner voice wanted to be liberated, to be heard. It was a new story: the story of embracing the paradox of who I am, and of coming to find out that I am many.” The Whisper

At the heart of human becoming lies the principle of evolution. Embracing evolution requires a willingness to question assumptions, challenge norms, and embark on uncharted paths in pursuit of personal and collective evolution. It requires a shift in mindset—one that taps into curiosity, self-reflection, and a willingness to unlearn. We have the creative power to shape our own destinies through conscious choice and action.

Living multidimensionally and embracing evolution can have profound implications for society at large. By fostering environments that celebrate diversity, encourage renewal, and foster exploration, we create the conditions for individuals to thrive and communities to flourish.
