Curiosity and creativity are innate to us. We do not have to do anything to earn them.
Many people believe that they aren’t creative as if it would be a bone or a gene they do not have. The sad truth is that many of us have been shamed out of even trying to access our creative spark. Some of us have even been taught out of our creativity. Next time you look around and feel as though it’s time to start changing something in your life follow that potent combination of curiosity, creativity and courage.
Matisse "Creativity takes courage."
Creativity isn't about quick solutions. It gets us to question assumptions, it liberates us from the old and leads to innovation. Creativity is a sensuous experience rather than only an intellectual activity. The so called Eureka moment requires incubation and preparation. The inspiration is only the tip of the iceberg. It isn't a mere event, it is a competence that requires nurturing. Are you nurturing it?
In the words of professor Sternberg, a person can have the creative ability but without a willingness to take sensible risks or an environment that provides at least minimal support for creativity, that individual’s potential creativity may be suppressed.
Tell me now, when you ask your team, yourself, your kids to be creative, are you providing the environment where creativity is supported? Are you providing yourself with the nourishing practices of imagination and inspiration or are you just commanding creativity as a tool or a skill at the mercy of will? It is not enough to list creative thinking as one of the most sought after skills without creating the condition for it to foster. What can you do today, something small that can be practiced over time, that creates the condition for you (and those around you) to BE creative? Be curious.
My invitation to you is to be curious of the world you have within and the world outside of you. Learn and understand the stories you have inside and make a choice to understand others’s stories too. Embody Artful Mindset and embrace Artful Entrepreneurship.
