To use a tool we need knowledge.
To use a tool we need cognitive understanding and rational application of what we know.
But, let me ask, how have you chosen your tools/toolbox?
Either we are talking about art tools, work tools, intellectual tools... please take some time to notice why you have chosen them.
What tools are in your toolbox? Can you list them?
Have you picked them because everyone else is using those tools?
Have you picked tools because they bring something special in your life/work?
I am curious, let me know!
Find me a master of their craft who don’t honour, revere, and care for their tools, and I will tell you they are not a master. - K. Ewing
Sometimes we might pick a tool and use it without really knowing much about the tool itself. Without entering into a relationship with the tool, without noticing really the quality of the tool. Take some time today to notice and to take care of your tools. Caring for your tools means caring for your work.
Spending time noticing their qualities and their unique elements are ways to become intimate with our work.
Those tools are the companions on our life/work journey.
Don’t bring along just any companion, be deliberate when choosing them and attend to them.
Decide which one you are going to use not only with your head but also with your hands and heart.
Whatever tools you decide to use they have to appeal to you, they are the extension of your heart and mind.
