Neglect is violence too

March 9, 2022 Fateme Banishoeib

Neglect is difficult to define.

Neglect often coexists with other forms of abuse.

Neglect can be a result of carelessness, indifference, or unwillingness.

Neglect may include the failure to provide sufficient supervision, nourishment, or medical care, or the failure to fulfill other needs for which the victim cannot provide themselves. The term is also applied when necessary care is withheld by those responsible for providing it from animals, plants, and even inanimate objects. Wikipedia

The opposite of neglect is agency. We all can take agency on our actions (or lack of actions). We all can start looking within and explore how status, affiliations, dominance benefit us.

The opposite of neglect is care. Caring may start with appreciation, with listening, with embodying presence…

Neglecting is violence too

Neglecting our responsibility to say no

Neglecting the care we owe to the world...

Too often we (pro)-claim a new model or paradigm but actually we are just fighting and competing to get the torch of the status quo we say we want to change. It’s going to take radical honesty and radical transformation to navigate the complex intricacies of our privileges.

“Whenever we give up, leave behind, and forget too much, there is always the danger that the things we have neglected will return with added force.” Carl Jung

In the video my poetic invitation to you (to us) to become more caring and less neglecting in our search for meaning.
