We are not seen. We are watched.

September 2, 2024 Fateme Banishoeib

We are not seen. We are watched.

Watching strips us down to our basest elements: a glance, a gesture, a movement tracked and traced by invisible eyes. But, to be seen is a rare recognition, a profound acknowledgment of our messy, unpolished humanity. To be seen is to be held in the gaze of another and understood in our full, unfiltered aliveness. It is to be met in our flawed and fragile beauty, not reduced to data points or metrics, not categorized and cataloged for what we might offer or how we might be used. To be seen is to stand before another and have them say, “I see you. Not what you can give me, not what I can take, but *you*.”

To be seen is to reclaim our complexity, our vulnerability, our unique spark of life that cannot be captured or commodified.

This world is full of eyes that watch. They hang from every ceiling, lurk in every pocket, and peer out from every screen. They dissect and diminish, reducing us to our most profitable parts. We are these eyes.
This is what reduces us to what can be measured, tracked, and used, but to be truly seen is an act of vulnerability and courageous resistance.

Can we free one another from the watching that tries to strip us down and seek the eyes that see us for all we are—unfiltered, irreplaceable, alive?  Can we see something today instead of just watching?

With this I want to remember a quote from “The Little Prince” (my fav book of all times, I re-read it every year) “And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

Artful Entrepreneurship programs and resources are designed with the intent and invitation to see beyond mere watching. If you have any question or would like to inquire for consultancy, workshops or talks get in contact with us.
