In pondering on the connection between strength, flexibility and alignment in my body, I started noticing the link n so many other aspects of life. Everything is connected!
As I googled flexibility images of athletes, dancers, yogis appeared. If you close your eyes and think of flexibility (and strength) which images come to mind? Strength, flexibility, alignment intertwine not only physically. The more flexibly we think, the more agility we have in understanding information, situations, and challenges, the stronger and more aligned our experiences (life?).
“A flexible body without flexibility of mind isn't perfect.” Tamerlan Kuzgov
Relationships, and life is a series of infinite relationships, that withstand trials flex with the changing situations and perspectives by leaning rather than strongly holding onto, by flexing and actively participating in the connection... When you think about your lasting relationships (with your friends, partners, teams, work...) can you identify what does contribute to the strength of such relationships? In strong relationships, we can be more flexible with each other. We are able to turn toward each other, contributing with suggestions, comments, support. But, how do we learn to turning toward the other (person, perspective, situation...)? By practicing attention, care, active listening... and alignment.
But what is alignment. I googled its definition and found it refers to “proper positioning” When we speak of seeking alignment (internal, with something or someone) do we really think we can achieve a "proper aligned positioning"?
I do not think it is a status to achieve. It is to me, when we take in consideration the complexity of our humanity and everything that is around us, a constant dance, an ever changing state to be practiced at all times. I have written more extensively on alignment on the blog, you can read here.
To live is to be in a constant beta state.
Life is an ever changing set of circumstances and events. It requires flexibility and strength on many levels. We have no clue of what it will appear ahead of us and are often surprised by suddenly changing conditions. Kids master adaptive mindset and practice alignment in a way that is light, creative, intuitive.
Then we grow up and become less adaptive… More rigid. Maybe too much strength to endure life challenges makes us less flexible and hence alignment more difficult. Can you feel it? How does show up in your lived experiences?
I invite you to practice together in my studio 1:1 (or small groups max 4 people) with lightness, intuitively and creatively the possibility of expressing and exploring alignment between strength and flexibility. Whatever is that you seek rather than by fighting against the waves can you align with them? A supportive space and time to practice creative participation, experimentation, inspiration.
