On the edge of r-evolution: Artful Entrepreneurship

November 18, 2023 Fateme Banishoeib

Artful Entrepreneurship is the daring grass growing between the cracks of cold cement. Leonard Cohen said that there is a crack in everything and that is how the light gets in. I think that is also how the light comes out. The light of creativity, in the true original essence of the term.

We think that artists face a blank canvas and in an act of creation transform what is blank into a masterpiece. Reality is that artists often face the crack of the world, full of pain, struggles, assumptions, raw messy material of life and from that crack create something (not necessarily a masterpiece) that shines through the cracks. That light coming out of the crack is like the guiding light of a beacon in the dark sea.

“I’m interested in the behavior of art rather than the achievement of art.” Berensohn

Artful Entrepreneurs are called to create in the uncertainty of the crack. They are like those flowers blooming in the cement. This is an invitation to create nothing extraordinary, actually quite the opposite. Create something so original that relates to the ordinary life lived through the cracks. That is the true uncertainty of life: the crack.

The blank empty canvas is a luxury few have experienced in life. So few I have not met any so far!  Create to connect to the origin (that's the meaning of original), the roots of being human, of being life in progress, life so messy that no-body would ever call it a masterpiece. It is an invitation to capture the essence of the human experience, not the aspiration of extraordinary heroic adventures making someone “super-human”.

Resiliency is not bouncing back; it's exploding forward through the crack.

It is a rebellious act. It is a creative act. It is an act of despair, care, courage, and even joy. Amidst the chaos, find silence at the edge of reflection. It's not just about looking back; it's about looking within the very fabric of our journeys. Ask yourself how can you make it a creative sanctuary?  How deeply are you connected to the experiences that surround you? Invite introspection into your journey and let the reflections fuel your r-evolution.

On the edge of the r-evolution of Artful Entrepreneurship, leadership becomes a living, breathing creation that pays attention, witnesses, cares in and from the cracks.
