I borrowed the title of this post from the filming services offered by John Oliver. I had the honour to be witnessed by John in a space of silent creation.
When was the last time you witnessed someone or even yourself?
Being witnessed is a rare gift. It is not watching, looking, testing or probing. Witnessing is creating a space (what I call sacred space) for someone or something to emerge in silence and from silence. As John defines it "a new dimension dissolving distance."
There, in that space, a thread of new connections emerges. A connection with our own heart, a connection to (self)-expression, a connection with others. It is the space where we can transform the relationship with ourselves and the world. It is a space of creation and re-creation.
In that space I caught a golden thread that led me to these verses - The Golden Touch (poem intuitively written during the filming session).
Gold
Gold hidden behind the veils of unconsciousness
Gold
Gold waiting for your hands to create
Like the Midas touch transforming everything into Gold
You are asked
To transform yourself into the Golden Touch of Awareness.
By practicing our heart we realise our vein of gold. A golden ray of connection to intuition, imagination and creative e-motions.
When we witness it in ourselves and in others we experience ART as Alchemy.
I have often been asked what chemistry (I have a Ph.D in organic chemistry) and poetry have in common. Many see them as two separates fields. To me they both seek for truth with the patience practice of turning elements, sounds, words, metaphors... Into a vein of golden truth. This is alchemy to me.
We have a capacity, when connected with our heart, to get in touch with our interior truth transforming our lived experience with the golden touch of awareness.
By practicing art (or alchemy) we empower ourselves with choices and then witness the transformative power of these choices. We are called to harbour the practice and devotion to our craft (the labor). Artists help us remember we have available to us those choices and the power to expand into awareness.
In the film my views on art and the role of artists, you can watch my invitation to evoke the artist within here (as a short version or full length).
