Words are the architecture of our inner and shared worlds, bridges between selves, vessels of meaning, and instruments of transformation. They don’t just describe reality; they shape it, giving form to thoughts, depth to feelings, and continuity to memories.
In speaking or writing, we don’t merely reflect experience, we create it anew, rendering the ephemeral tangible and the personal universal. Ursula K. Le Guin reminds us that words are not passive carriers but catalysts. They build, dismantle, heal, and provoke. They allow us to be seen, understood, and connected. In them, we live—not just in the sense of using them, but in the way they construct the landscapes of our inner and outer worlds.
This is why I have been saying for years: if we want to renew business, we must start with a new narrative, new words, new language. It’s no coincidence I called my company ReNEWBusiness. Because transformation starts with the stories we tell. And to me, that new language is poetry.
A Language of Belonging, Identity, and Transformation
For too long, language in business has been transactional, detached, and empty of soul. We have used words to measure productivity, extract value, and reinforce systems that no longer serve us. But language is not just a means of communication—it is an act of creation, shaping both our individual and collective realities.
This is why my work focuses on the intersection of language, identity, and transformation. The words we choose hold the power to dismantle limiting structures and create new ones rooted in authenticity and belonging.
Words are not just tools for self-expression; they are tools for self-actualization—an ongoing process of shaping who we are and the world we wish to inhabit.
The Ethical Responsibility of Language
There is an ethical responsibility embedded in language, urging us to choose words that empower rather than diminish, words that build bridges rather than walls. The way we use language reflects and defines the culture we create, whether in organizations, communities, or personal relationships.
Speaking with intentionality and writing with purpose is a radical act. It is how we shape a better, more humane world, one where people feel seen, valued, and inspired to contribute their unique gifts.
Words as Vessels of Truth, Emotion, and Connection
Words are alive. They carry the weight of our experiences and the potential for change. They shape not only our individual identities but also the cultures we create in workplaces, communities, and in our shared humanity.
This is why I believe in poetry. Not just in verse, but as a way of living and leading. A way of choosing words that honor the fullness of our existence. A way of doing business that is rooted in meaning, connection, and transformation.
Words are where we live. And through them, we shape reality, not just for ourselves, but for those around us. Together, we co-create spaces of belonging, innovation, and renewal.
