“Maybe the value of art...is that it upends other value systems. Art unmakes the world made by work...” - Eula Biss
Thanks to a simple (and surprising) inquiry, at the intersection between business and poetry my world was unmade to create space for these lines, the first ever poem I recited publicly Lean Back (an excerpt):
You are not a business woman
You are not a woman in business
You are a woman whose business
Needs to become
Working in a new way
When you think, act and feel like an artist which worlds get unmade? What, as the artist of your work, working in a new way means? How the value of your human experience (of work and life) changes by practicing heartfully?
That "working in a new way" became RNEWB. A space for me and others to heartful practice allowing the imaginative to create new "knowledge" that is not only new but has the capacity to transform human understanding, working and creating relationships with the world.
Poetry, my favourite heartful practice, like science, expands our awareness and understanding of the world. Our engagement and relationship with the world change through this expanded awareness. It is this heartful practicing that unmakes the world made by work, as Eula Biss said, providing an opportunity for renewal and value-making (not extracting).
I practice on a path of evoking the heartist within all of us. It is a path of inquiry and self-inquiry. It is a path of healing the relationship with our artist within. What may be possible if we healed and listened to him/her? Are we willing to value the artist within as we value the doctor, engineer, teacher… Is it here that we learn the value of art?
This is my invocation to your (and mine) artist within.

Come practice together!
P.S. You know by now that for me art/heart and artist/heartist are one and the same.
